Davon Sargent, 30, was sentenced to 14 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. The sentencing took place in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, following Sargent’s guilty plea on June 18, 2025 before Judge Amy Berman Jackson. In addition to the prison term, Sargent will serve three years of supervised release.
According to court records, Metropolitan Police officers encountered Sargent on September 17, 2024 while patrolling the 1400 block of H Street. Officers observed a black Chevrolet Cruise with its trunk open that failed to stop at a red light. After stopping the vehicle in a parking lot on Maryland Avenue NE, officers noted that Sargent, who was alone in the car, appeared to be concealing something.
When asked to exit the vehicle, Sargent attempted to escape but was subdued by officers who found a loaded Glock 26 pistol concealed under his clothing. The firearm contained one round in the chamber and 15 rounds in its magazine.
Sargent had previously pleaded guilty to carrying a pistol without a license and was prohibited from possessing firearms.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentence and acknowledged that the case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emory V. Cole.
