Julius Worthy, a 42-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 41 years in prison for the murder of Orlando Galloway and the assault of Shaquia Lewis, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Worthy was convicted by a Superior Court jury on November 21, 2025, on charges including second-degree murder and assault with intent to kill. Judge Jason Park imposed the sentence, which also includes five years of supervised release.
The incident occurred on April 2, 2023. Prosecutors presented evidence that Worthy lived with Galloway in a Capitol Hill apartment. On the evening of the crime, an argument over $20 escalated when Worthy shot Galloway six times out of eight shots fired inside their home. He then stabbed Galloway five times in the neck and struck him repeatedly in the face with a firearm.
Worthy subsequently attacked Lewis by stabbing her multiple times and strangling her until she lost consciousness. He remained at the scene for more than an hour after the attacks, during which he called several people asking for help “cleaning up this mess,” and stated that he was “killing two people.” When Lewis attempted to escape through the front door, Worthy attacked her again with scissors.
A neighbor heard Lewis’s screams and saw Worthy attacking her before calling 911. Police arrived soon after, prompting Worthy to flee out the back door. Investigators later found messages from Worthy admitting to killing two people.
Worthy was arrested on April 3, 2023, and has been held in custody since his arrest.
Interim Chief Jeffrey Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in announcing the sentencing. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch led the investigation into this case. Assistant U.S. Attorneys William Lawrence and Molly Smith prosecuted it.
