Victor Renato Blythe, a 60-year-old child psychotherapist from Washington, D.C., has been charged with distributing and possessing child pornography, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Blythe works as a psychotherapist specializing in children and adolescents and previously held a position in the Psychiatry Department at Children’s National Medical Center.

The federal complaint alleges that Blythe communicated with another individual about his interest in the sexual abuse of children. He is accused of distributing child pornography during these communications and of possessing additional videos depicting child pornography on his electronic devices.

The investigation is being conducted by the FBI Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department, with assistance from the Fairfax County Police Department. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia is prosecuting the case.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI at tips@fbi.gov.”

The charges are part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children online and to rescue victims. More information can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.

“A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
