Tyrell West, a 30-year-old resident of Bowie, Maryland, has been indicted by a D.C. Superior Court grand jury on charges related to an assault that took place in November 2025. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
West faces three counts: strangulation, threats to do bodily harm, and simple assault. According to the indictment, on November 26, 2025, West allegedly threatened his romantic partner with assault, then punched her in the face and strangled her while their young child was present. The victim reportedly lost consciousness during the incident and later sought help from a neighbor before calling 911.
Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in making the announcement. The case is under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Olivis Hinerfeld.
Authorities remind the public that “an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
