Adam Muhammad, a 40-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an assault on his ex-romantic partner and unlawful possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Muhammad entered his plea in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on January 29, 2026. He admitted guilt to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm due to a prior conviction. Sentencing is set for April 10, 2026.

According to evidence presented by the government, the incident occurred on September 16, 2025. Muhammad went to his ex-partner’s residence on 7th Street Northwest where an argument escalated into violence. During the altercation, Muhammad gained control of a kitchen knife after the victim attempted to defend herself. He then pinned her to the floor and held the knife blade to her neck while threatening her life.

A week later, Muhammad was found at an abandoned apartment complex carrying a loaded pistol despite being prohibited from possessing firearms because of a previous felony conviction. Police officers discovered a black and silver Smith and Wesson 915 9mm handgun with eight rounds in its magazine during a protective pat down.

Muhammad was arrested on September 23, 2025, and has remained in custody since that time.

Interim Chief Jeffrey Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined in announcing these developments. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elias Feldman is prosecuting the assault charge, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexis Franks is handling the unlawful possession case.
