Michael Mason, 21, of Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty on September 5, 2025, to two counts of second-degree murder. The charges relate to the deaths of Brea Moon and Antwuan Roach in separate incidents in April and May 2020.
The U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Ferris Pirro, announced that Mason’s plea is subject to court approval at sentencing. The agreement proposes a prison sentence ranging from 27 to 31 years, followed by supervised release. Superior Court Judge Jason Park accepted the factual basis for the plea and scheduled sentencing for October 31, 2025.
According to government evidence presented in court, Mason was involved in the shooting death of Brea Moon on April 7, 2020. He was riding in a stolen white vehicle that entered a BP gas station at 4101 Alabama Avenue SE around 10:30 p.m. Minutes later, another car with Moon as a passenger arrived at the same station. After both vehicles left the gas station, Mason’s vehicle followed closely behind and then pulled up beside the other car. Mason fired multiple shots into the car where Moon was sitting, killing her.
In a separate incident in May 2020, authorities say Mason tracked Antwuan Roach to an area near Anacostia Road NE shortly before 5:00 p.m. Roach was walking alone and unarmed when Mason’s vehicle pulled into an alley behind the 3800 block of East Capitol Street Northeast. As Roach stepped into the alley, Mason shot and killed him.
Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in making the announcement regarding the plea.
“In announcing the sentences, U.S. Attorney Pirro and Chief Smith commended the work of those who investigated the case from the Metropolitan Police Department. They also expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the U.S. Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.”
“Finally, they commended the work of Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gauri Gopal, Julia Cosans, Sarah Folse, Yasmin Emrani, and Daniel Bromwich, who investigated and prosecuted the case, along with former Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gregory Kimak and Alec Levy.”
