Maurice Corbin, a 47-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Daquan Garner. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Corbin pleaded guilty in October 2025 to one count of second-degree murder while armed. The sentencing took place on December 19, 2025, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia before Judge Michael Ryan.
According to government evidence, on April 30, 2024, Corbin approached Garner as he sat in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle near 1501 North Capitol Street NE. Corbin fired several shots through the front passenger window at close range, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds that led to Garner’s death.
U.S. Attorney Pirro recognized the contributions of investigators from the Metropolitan Police Department and expressed appreciation for support from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. She also acknowledged those who worked on the case within her office: Paralegal Specialist Alyssa Schroeder and Victim/Witness Advocate Jennifer Allen.
“Finally, she commended the work of Assistant U.S. Attorney Shauna Payyappilly who investigated and prosecuted the case.”
