John Calvin Harris, a 29-year-old resident of the District of Columbia and convicted felon, was sentenced to 36 months in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and trafficking amphetamines and crack cocaine. The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court, as announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Harris pleaded guilty on September 18, 2025, to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon and to possession with intent to distribute amphetamine and cocaine base. Chief Judge James E. Boasberg also ordered Harris to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

According to court documents, Metropolitan Police officers observed Harris on June 30, 2025, in the driver’s seat of a parked Honda on the 4000 block of Minnesota Ave, NE. At the time, Harris was wanted on an active warrant from Maryland. Officers arrested Harris and recovered a loaded Glock 29 pistol from his person. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of more than 45 grams of cocaine base and over 30 grams of amphetamines.

Harris had previously been convicted in 2023 for possession with intent to distribute oxycodone and received probation. As a result, he was prohibited from possessing firearms.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Caelainn Carney is prosecuting the matter.
