Eastern District of Washington announces 2026 civics essay and video contest

High school students in Eastern Washington are being invited to participate in the 2026 Ninth Circuit Civics Essay and Video Contest. The contest provides an opportunity for students to express their views, demonstrate creativity, and compete for cash prizes.

Participants will first enter a local competition within the Eastern District of Washington. Top entries from this round will move on to the broader Ninth Circuit competition. Prizes for local winners include $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, and $250 for third place in each category.

The theme for this year’s contest is “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness – Your Voice. Your Story. Your America.” Students are encouraged to address this topic through essays or videos that explore its relevance today.

According to the announcement: “The Eastern District of Washington is excited to invite high school students to participate in the 2026 Ninth Circuit Civics Essay and Video Contest—a unique opportunity to share your voice, showcase your creativity, and compete for cash prizes!”

Contest details such as rules, submission guidelines, judging criteria, research materials, and examples of past winning entries can be found online. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 6, 2026.
