Larry Johnson, a 26-year-old resident of the District of Columbia and previously convicted felon, was sentenced to 50 months in prison for illegally possessing a firearm that he discharged inside an apartment. The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court and was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Johnson pleaded guilty on November 5, 2025, before Chief Judge James E. Boasberg to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. In addition to his prison sentence, Johnson will serve three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on August 10, 2025. Metropolitan Police officers responded to the 2200 block of Town Center Drive, SE at approximately 11:36 p.m., following reports of an altercation inside a fourth-floor apartment. During this incident, Johnson fired a gun twice while inside the apartment where a woman and her two children were present.

Police recovered a Springfield-Armory XD-9 Mod.2 Sub-Compact 9mm pistol from a shelf in a bedroom closet. Authorities confirmed that Johnson did not have a license to possess firearms in the District and had previously been convicted of felony robbery in Montgomery County, Maryland.

The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caelainn Carney prosecuted the case.
