Tony Brown, a 34-year-old resident of the District of Columbia with prior felony convictions, was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison for unlawfully possessing a Ruger pistol. The sentencing was announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Brown pleaded guilty on June 26 before Chief Judge James E. Boasberg to the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison. In addition to his prison sentence, Brown will serve 18 months of supervised release.
Court documents show that on May 14, 2025, around 7:45 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers were patrolling the 5200 block of A Street, SE, when an officer saw the handle and magazine of an unholstered pistol visible under Brown’s shirt from the patrol car. The officer exited the vehicle and approached Brown, who then fled and led police on a brief foot chase.
After apprehending Brown, officers noticed the outline of a handgun below his right knee. They discovered a black Ruger Model 57 loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition that had slipped down his leg during the pursuit. Brown was initially charged with carrying a firearm without a license.
Brown’s criminal record includes a 2017 conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm in the District and a 2018 conviction for assaulting a law enforcement officer in Prince William County, Maryland.
The Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Fucetola and former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Sumaiya F. Ismail prosecuted the matter.
