Sean Charles Dunn, 37, has been charged in U.S. District Court for allegedly assaulting a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer in Washington, D.C., according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Dunn, who was previously employed at the Department of Justice (DOJ), was fired by Attorney General Pam Bondi following the incident. He faces one felony count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and employees of the United States. Dunn appeared before federal Magistrate Judge G. Michael Harvey and was released on his own recognizance.

Attorney General Bondi stated on X: “If you touch any law enforcement officer, we will come after you. I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER. Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony. This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ. You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.”

U.S. Attorney Pirro commented: “Let me be clear, if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, be certain we will come after you with the full weight of the law. Our officers have a job to do, and they should not be abused in the process. This alleged assault is no joke – it’s a serious crime, and those who think otherwise will learn just how gravely mistaken they are.”

According to court documents, on Sunday, August 10 at approximately 11 p.m., Metro Transit Police and CBP members were patrolling on the 2000 block of 14th Street NW when Dunn allegedly approached a CBP officer, pointed his finger at him and shouted insults including: “F you! You fing fascists! Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!” At about 11:06 p.m., Dunn threw a wrapped sandwich at the officer’s chest; video footage posted to Instagram captured this event.

Dunn reportedly tried to flee but was apprehended by authorities nearby. While being processed at Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District stationhouse, he admitted to throwing the sandwich.

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this case; prosecution is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
