Nathalie Rose Jones, a 50-year-old resident of Lafayette, Indiana, was arrested in Washington, D.C., on August 16 and charged with making threats against President Trump through social media. The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Jones faces a complaint in U.S. District Court for allegedly threatening to kill, kidnap, or inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States. She is also accused of transmitting communications containing threats to kidnap or injure another person across state lines.
“Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution. Make no mistake—justice will be served,” said U.S. Attorney Pirro. “We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated law enforcement partners, especially the Secret Service Special Agents from New York and Washington, D.C., for their tireless commitment to protecting our leaders and our nation.”
Special Agent in Charge Matt McCool of the U.S. Secret Service’s Washington Field Office stated: “Protecting the President of the United States is our highest priority, and every potential threat is addressed with the utmost seriousness. Special Agents from New York and Washington, DC, working in close coordination with prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, acted swiftly and decisively to neutralize this alleged threat before it could escalate. We are deeply grateful to the dedicated professionals who worked tirelessly to advance this investigation and safeguard our nation’s leadership.”
According to court documents, between August 2 and August 9, Secret Service agents observed that an Instagram account under “nath.jones” posted several threatening comments about President Trump. These posts called for his removal from office, described him as a terrorist, referred to his administration as a dictatorship, and blamed him for unnecessary deaths related to COVID-19.
Between August 6 and August 15 on Facebook, Jones allegedly continued posting threats directed at President Trump. In one post dated August 6 aimed at the FBI, she wrote about her willingness “to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present.” On August 14 in a message addressed to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, she requested arrangements for “the arrest and removal ceremony” of President Trump at the White House.
On August 15 during an interview with Secret Service agents, Jones reportedly described President Trump as a terrorist and Nazi; she claimed she would take his life if given an opportunity using a bladed object which she identified as her intended weapon. She said her motivation was to avenge lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic due to what she believed were failures by Trump’s administration regarding vaccinations.
The following day after participating in a protest near Dupont Circle that passed by the White House complex, Jones was interviewed again by law enforcement officials where she admitted making previous threats but denied any current intent to harm President Trump. She confirmed ownership of both her Facebook account “Nath Jones” and responsibility for posting threatening statements before being taken into custody.
The case remains under investigation by the U.S. Secret Service while Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Satter leads prosecution efforts.
