Korriek Akinola, 24, of Washington, D.C., has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed for his involvement in a 2023 drive-by shooting that killed Joshua White. The plea was entered on August 18, 2025, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Sentencing is set for October 24, 2025, before Judge Neal Kravitz.

According to court documents, on June 6, 2023, Akinola and another individual were in a white Infiniti SUV near the Shell gas station at 4700 South Capitol Street SE. They saw Joshua White riding a Veo bike in the parking lot. The two then switched vehicles to a stolen black Honda Accord and changed its license plate to a temporary tag to avoid detection. After returning to the gas station, Akinola drove toward White and both he and his accomplice fired multiple shots at him. White was struck several times and died at the scene.

Akinola managed to evade law enforcement on several occasions but was eventually apprehended by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force on July 24, 2023.
