Joshua Calvin Allen, a 35-year-old resident of the District of Columbia with five prior felony convictions, has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Tanya S. Chutkan on October 15, following Allen’s guilty plea on June 30, 2025. In addition to the prison term, Allen will serve three years of supervised release.

According to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro, “Allen pleaded guilty on June 30, 2025, to unlawful possession of a firearm. In addition to the prison term, Judge Tanya S. Chutkan ordered Allen to serve three years of supervised release.”

Allen remains in custody at the Central Detention Facility since November 2021 for violating the terms of a previous supervised release related to earlier offenses including prisoner escape and assault with intent to commit robbery while armed. He is also awaiting trial for his alleged involvement in a homicide that occurred in June 2021.

A warrant for Allen’s arrest was issued by a D.C. Superior Court Judge on November 9, 2021, in connection with the death of Delonte Johnson. On November 10, members of the U.S. Marshal’s Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended Allen using data from his GPS ankle monitor—a condition set after a previous firearms conviction.

Allen was found sitting in a white Ford Explorer near an apartment complex in Southeast Washington when Task Force officers conducted a pat down and discovered a loaded Glock 23 pistol with an extended magazine hidden between two pairs of compression shorts.

This conviction marks Allen’s sixth felony overall and his second for illegal firearm possession within the District of Columbia. His criminal record also includes convictions for assault with intent to commit robbery while armed, carrying an unlicensed pistol, being an inmate in possession of a weapon in D.C., and armed carjacking in Maryland.

The investigation involved collaboration among the U.S. Marshal’s Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, FBI Washington Field Office, and Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah C. Santiago prosecuted the case.

Editor’s note: The incident occurred as indicated but publication was delayed due to a government shutdown; this release was posted after normal operations resumed.
