Seattle – A Seattle man with prior convictions for robbery, burglary, and indecent liberties was convicted in U.S. District Court in Seattle of possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller announced that Anthony Raymond Dodd, 36, was found guilty following a three-day jury trial. The jury deliberated for about six hours before returning the verdict. In a second proceeding, Dodd was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Sentencing is scheduled for October 20, 2025.
According to case records and trial testimony, on February 22, 2024, Dodd was supposed to meet his community corrections officer in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood. Law enforcement had received information that Dodd was armed and dealing fentanyl pills. Corrections officers followed him to the meeting location and kept his car under surveillance during the meeting. Upon searching the vehicle afterward, they discovered two bags of fentanyl pills with a loaded handgun on top inside the center console. DNA consistent with Dodd’s profile was found on the gun’s trigger and magazine.
A search of Dodd’s apartment revealed $1,460 in cash and some pills hidden in a heat vent. On his phone was a request from someone asking for ‘blues,’ referring to fentanyl pills.
In closing arguments, Assistant United States Attorney Cecelia Gregson stated that Dodd “was the only person in that car; he was the last person in that car.” Meanwhile, Dodd’s defense argued it was a ‘cautionary tale’ about borrowing an ill-fated car from a friend without knowledge of its contents.
Judge Chun held a separate trial regarding whether Dodd illegally possessed the firearm due to his status as a convicted felon; jurors returned another guilty verdict after brief deliberation.
Possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute carries penalties ranging from five years minimum imprisonment up to forty years maximum; possessing firearms relatedly entails mandatory consecutive
