A Seattle man has been found guilty in U.S. District Court for a series of carjackings and firearm offenses that occurred across King County on November 7, 2022. Maar Teng Rambang, 25, was convicted of three counts of carjacking and three counts of using a firearm during a crime of violence after a four-day jury trial. The verdict was delivered after about an hour of jury deliberation, according to U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd.
Court records show that Rambang’s actions spanned several cities including Kent, Bellevue, Redmond, Seattle, and Renton. The incident began near noon outside the Kent East Hill Post Office when Rambang confronted a woman at gunpoint and took her vehicle. He then drove to the Bellevue Square Mall garage where he fired his weapon while threatening another woman and stealing her BMW.
Rambang continued to Redmond where he attempted to rob Amazon employees at a Whole Foods Market delivery locker before driving to Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood. There, he shot a man in the leg and stole his Jeep SUV.
Law enforcement tracked the stolen Jeep back to Kent and attempted to apprehend Rambang. He evaded officers by speeding through heavy traffic—reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour—and running red lights before being stopped and arrested in Renton.
During closing arguments, Assistant United States Attorney Todd Greenberg stated: “The victims were everyday people trying to do everyday things…. The defendant’s crime spree turned these everyday things into nightmares for the victims.”
Carjacking carries a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. Using a firearm during a violent crime mandates at least ten years in prison with the possibility of life imprisonment.
The investigation involved police departments from Kent, Bellevue, Redmond, and Seattle as well as assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). Prosecutors on the case are Assistant United States Attorneys Todd Greenberg and Rachel Yemini.
