A Seattle man with a history of criminal convictions has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place in U.S. District Court in Seattle, where Acting U.S. Attorney Teal Luthy Miller announced the outcome.
Kenan Dejuan Brown, 42, was arrested on October 20, 2023, after the car he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree. Police found him passed out behind the wheel with a gun visible in his jacket pocket. Officers recovered a Glock 19 handgun with an extended magazine and one round chambered.
At the sentencing hearing, U.S. District Judge James L. Robart addressed Brown’s claim that he “felt safe” with a firearm by stating, “In my experience a gun is an invitation to get into trouble.”
Court records show that Brown has previous convictions in King and Kitsap Superior Courts for domestic violence assaults, violations of court orders, and unlawful possession of firearms. He also has a prior federal conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Brown pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm on February 14, 2025.
Judge Robart included drug and alcohol treatment as part of Brown’s sentence. After serving his prison term, Brown will be subject to three years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Seattle Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Brian Wynne prosecuted the case.
