Iesha Marks of Bowie, Maryland, and Daniel Bangura of Washington, D.C., have pleaded guilty in connection with the fatal shooting of Donald Childs in July 2023. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Marks entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder while armed on January 13, 2026. She faces a potential prison sentence ranging from 13 to 25 years, followed by supervised release. Bangura pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice on the same day and could receive between four and eight years in prison, also followed by supervised release. Both sentences are pending approval by the court.
The Honorable Danya A. Dayson is scheduled to sentence Bangura on March 13, 2026, and Marks on June 12, 2026.
According to government evidence presented in court, Bangura drove Marks to Farragut Street NW on July 30, 2023. As they passed through a busy intersection at approximately 2:43 p.m., Marks fired several shots from the front passenger window into Farragut Street, hitting and killing Childs as he stood on the sidewalk. Afterward, Bangura drove Marks to Pennsylvania where they disposed of the firearm used in the shooting.
Marks was arrested in October 2023 and has remained in custody since then. Bangura has been detained since his indictment in May 2025.
Interim Chief Jeffery W. Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department joined U.S. Attorney Pirro in making the announcement. The case was investigated by members of the Metropolitan Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Yasmin Emrani.
